Over a period of 11 weeks, until January 14, 2022, an exciting lineup of six artists worked on the ground around the theme Oasis Reborn.
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) partnered with the French Agency for AlUla Development (Afalula) to create the first artist residency programme in AlUla, activated in November 2021. Based on its expertise in transforming territories by associating arts and cultural actors with development projects, Manifesto was selected to work hand in hand with RCU and Afalula as the operator of this first residency programme and to support the artistic direction and artists' management.
This first edition was an experimental venture, mobilising a continual stream of artists in residence activity. With interdisciplinarity practice at its core, the AlUla Artist Residency fosters dialogue, exchange, and collaboration between the artists in residence and the community of experts working on the ground in AlUla, as well as the local community including artisans, cultural practitioners and storytellers.
