Agnes Denes is a leading figure among the concept-based artists of the '60s -'70s, and a pioneer of environmental art. Her artistic oeuvre is distinctive in terms of its remarkable aesthetics and engagement with science, philosophy, psychology, linguistics, poetry, history, music, and sociopolitical ideas.

Agnes Denes’ commission for Wadi AlFann continues her engagement with the pyramid as a geometric, sculptural, and philosophical form. In a 21st-century iteration of the prehistoric rock carvings that populate the desert canyons, and further to careful study of their geological formation, Denes will create six relief carvings. Each takes the form of a pyramid incised into the surface of the sandstone cliffs to create a monumental avenue of rock drawings leading to a crystal pyramid. Her work symbolises ‘the past, present, and future of human civilisation.’
