Under Land Awoiska van der Molen (1972, Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch visual artist, and photography is her main tool. Van der Molen studied Architecture and Design, followed by photography, at Minerva Art Academy Groningen (Netherlands) and at Hunter City University in New York (USA). She completed her MFA in Photography at the St. Joost Academy in Breda, Netherlands, in 2003. In 2019, Van der Molen was shortlisted for the Prix Pictet, and in 2017 for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. She was the recipient of the Larry Sultan Photography Award 2017 and of the Japanese Benrido Hariban Award in 2014. In 2011, Van der Molen was a finalist at the Hyères Festival International de Mode et de Photographie in France, and she participated in the Alt. + 1000 competition in Rossinière, Switzerland. Her work has been on show at venues including Pier24 Photography, San Francisco, California (USA), the V&A Museum and The Photographers’ Gallery, both in London (UK), Les Rencontres d’Arles festival in France, Kousei-Inn, Kyoto (Japan) and at the Stedelijk Museum, FOAM Museum and the Huis Marseille, Museum for Photography in Amsterdam (Netherlands). She has published three books: “The Living Mountain” (2020), “Blanco” (2017) and “Sequester” (2014) with Fw:Books, Amsterdam. |
