Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear

Martin Kollár (1971, Zilina, Slovak Republic) studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. He has been working as a freelance photographer and cinematographer since he graduated.

He has received several grants and awards, including the Prix Elysée and the Oskar Barnack Award. His work has been exhibited across the world, including at the Brooklyn Museum in New York (USA), the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, (Germany), and the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne (Switzerland). His books include After (Mack, 2021), Provisional Arrangement (Mack / Musée de l’Elysée, 2016), Catalogue (Slovak National Gallery, 2015), Field Trip (Mack, 2013), Cahier (Diaphane, 2011) and Nothing Special (Actes-Sud, 2008).

As a cinematographer, Kollar has worked on a number of films, including Cenzorka/107 Morhers (2021), Koza(2015), Velvet Terrorists (2013), Cooking History (2009), 66 Seasons (2003) and others. He made his directorial feature debut with the film 5th October (2016).
