Wadi AlFann Showcase: Monumental Narratives in Ancient Landscapes

Journeys in Land Art, Towards Wadi AlFann, AlUla, spotlights artists, Manal AlDowayan, Agnes Denes, Michael Heizer, Ahmed Mater and James Turrell, the first five contemporary artists and renowned pioneers of land art, commissioned to create new, large-scale, site-specific works to be placed in the spectacular landscape of AlUla.

The showcase will feature a series of renders, drawings, maquettes, and interviews gathered through participatory workshops with communities across AlUla, by Manal AlDowayan, the artist representing Saudi Arabia at La Biennale di Venezia 2024. Also on display will be maquettes and renders by Ahmed Mater.

Additionally, Wadi AlFann Publications is launching artists' books titled "Oasis of Stories" and "The Desert Field Guide." In this context, Saudi artist Manal AlDowayan joins US artist Mark Dion to discuss the book as a work of art, emphasizing how participation is core to their practice and what their artists' books reveal about the desert.
