Following its inaugural exhibition in 2020, the second edition of Desert X AlUla, 2022 (11 February –30 March) took place in a new canyon, placing newly commissioned works by Saudi and international artists in dialogue with the extraordinary nature and culture of AlUla.

The second edition of Desert X AlUla, under the curatorial vision of Reem Fadda, Raneem Farsi and Neville Wakefield, featured newly commissioned works from Saudi and international artists. Under the theme of Sarab, the exhibition explored ideas of mirage and oasis, both intrinsic to desert history and culture, that have taken on complex worldwide significance over time. This art in the landscape experience was accompanied by a dynamic programme of performance, workshops, family events and school visits.

The AlUla Design Award recognises exceptional design inspired by the heritage, landscapes, and artistic legacies of AlUla.

The AlUla Design Award is back for a second edition as an Open Call that invites established and emerging designers to conceptualise and propose exceptional items for Cultural Retail.
Submissions were evaluated by a Jury of recognised leaders from the world of design.

Shortlisted design proposals will be commissioned, supported in their production and promoted within AlUla and its network of influential and high profile online and international activities.
