Madrasat Addeera is the first school for girls in AlUla. It experienced a transformative change in 2019, when its premises were converted into AlUla’s first arts and design centre.

The innovative new school offers programmes in traditional arts, guiding artisans and empowering them with the essential tools and techniques necessary to transform the traditional art scene in AlUla. This initiative aims not only to preserve the rich heritage of traditional arts in AlUla but also to reimagine them, imbuing these time-honored practices with a modern twist.

Madrasat Addeera’s Vocational Training Programme

Madrasat Addeera is an integral part of the fabric of AlUla’s community. Through carefully crafted professional educational programmes, we aim to revive and enhance traditional arts that constitute an essential part of our rich cultural heritage. We believe that integrating vocational education in traditional arts can have a tangible positive impact on our communities, providing valuable opportunities for the people of AlUla to learn new skills.

Participants in these programmes are provided the opportunity to develop their abilities in crafting traditional artworks, which serve as a bridge between the past and the present, preserving traditional techniques and methods in artistic production.

Madrasat Addeera takes pride in graduating more than 40 artisans, and currently accommodates around 120 artisans within its creative programmes in various stages of learning.

The Renovation of Madrasat Addeera

To achieve the goal of the Royal Commission for AlUla in preserving heritage—which includes local buildings—the current building’s facilities are being upgraded through a two-year renovation project which will accommodate future artistic activities, and provide innovation and maker’s spaces. These spaces include design and creativity areas, traditional arts workshops, artistic residencies, music studios, perfume labs, and various other activities.

The primary building of Madrasat Addeera, the first intermediate school for girls in AlUla, is undergoing renovation, and is expected to be completed by 2026. The aim of this renewal is to transform Madrasat Addeera into a vibrant centre for learning, creativity, and collaboration, providing a lively cultural hub for the local community. Meanwhile, the Abdulrahman bin Auf Elementary School campus serves as temporary headquarters for workshops until the main building renovation is complete.
